On July 1st, 146 Portuguese Marines left for Lithuania, where they will remain 3 months as part of NATO Assurance Measures in the Baltic Sea region.

140 Marines and 6 divers will train with the Lithuanian Navy and the Army's Dragoon Battalion in amphibious and land operations.

The Chief of Defence, Admiral António Silva Ribeiro, believes that this national participation, which aims to contribute to NATO collective efforts, demonstrates the Portuguese "strong solidarity with all members of the Atlantic Alliance." The Chief of Staff of the Navy, Admiral António Mendes Calado, identified the national participation as contributing “to affirm Portugal as a security provider and peace contributor."
